Gall Bladder is one of the cancers where science has not got any breakthrough. Above it, the painful part is most of the patients present in the advanced stage at the time of diagnosis.
Targeted drugs have little hope here and Immunotherapy has still not given any landmark results. We are still with palliative chemotherapy and the best supportive care. Obstructive jaundice patients should always be offered biliary drainage when required.
A risk factor for Gall Bladder Cancer is gallstone disease. Gallstones for many years can cause Gall bladder cancer due to chronic inflammation. I think that advanced-stage gallbladder cancer is an incurable cancer with very short survival so we should remove any risk factor for it at the earliest.
Timely Prophylactic cholecystectomy in gallstone disease can decrease gallbladder cancer incidence dramatically. Radical cholecystectomy is the curative modality in early-stage disease. Chemotherapy and Plus-minus radiotherapy can be added in stage 2 or 3. Palliative chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, and best support can be judiciously added to advanced stage Gall bladder cancer.
